Case Study - malware with ID theft in 2018
Problem
The client called us one day. He reported being a victim of identity theft which was a result of a malware infection. The hacker was able to obtain my client’s social security and business tax ID and attempted to use this information to obtain lines of credit in my client’s name.
Solution
We scanned his entire system and removed all infections. We also helped him install a commercial grade antivirus system and other security measures to ensure a secure system. He has not been infected since.
Result
The client was able to get back to business as normal the next day. All of their data was intact and things were back to normal.
Backstory
This client does not believe in using an antivirus software, and despite the many warnings from use, the client refused to protect his system with simple security measures. As a result, his system was defenseless when my client’s computer came in contact with the malware. The lesson learned here is a simple antivirus/EDR can go a long way to protecting against breaches and infections.
